A Practical Litter-Mat Cleanup Routine

Make room for a simple routine around the litter box.

Begin with the instructions

Read the cleaning directions for the exact mat. Materials, seams and backing differ. Keep the recommended method with your household cleaning notes so that everyone uses the same approach.

Remove loose litter first

If the design allows it, lift the mat carefully and empty trapped litter using its designated opening. Avoid forcing apart bonded seams. Follow the litter maker’s disposal guidance; a mat does not change how used litter should be handled.

Clean and dry as directed

Use only a cleaning method suitable for the mat and the floor beneath it. Allow the mat and floor to dry before putting everything back. Do not assume a mat is machine washable, urine-proof or suitable for hot drying unless the specific product instructions say so.

Check the condition

Look for damaged edges, loose layers and wear that may affect normal use. Replace a damaged item as appropriate. A consistent cleanup routine is useful, but a mat does not replace regular litter-box maintenance.

For product-specific dimensions, materials and instructions, use the exact listing and the manufacturer’s documentation. Contact LitterHaven with a question.
